Travel Volunteerism at The Ronald McDonald House

Kiawah Island Golf Resort and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston (RMHCC), SC, have teamed together to provide you with the opportunity to volunteer during your Lowcountry vacation.

The relationship enables any resort guest, especially those with children, to directly experience the power of volunteerism and have a positive impact on the lives of others.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston (RMHCC) provides temporary lodging and support for eligible families of seriously ill children in a home-like environment through the operation of the Ronald McDonald House. It is located directly in downtown Charleston, about 30 minutes from Kiawah and close to many tourist attractions often frequented by resort guests. Some of the volunteer opportunities include:

  • Treat providers – Bake breakfast muffins, cookies, brownies or other homemade treats in the house’s kitchen.
  • Game Events/Family Activities – Resort guests can host a game event in the house’s dining room, such as getting together supplies and prizes for Bingo night. Or, they can sing, dance, read a story, or offer some other form of family entertainment.
  • Wish List Drive – Help keep the house stocked with all the comforts of home. Creating a wish list drive for the house is a great way for children to understand the true spirit of giving. The house updates this list regularly. Items that are constantly in need include individually packaged snacks like crackers and juice boxes, and travel-sized shampoos and soaps.
  • Share a Night – For those resort guests unable to travel into Charleston, they can make a monetary donation toward the cost of running the house. As a Share-A-Night Sponsor, you “share” the costs of operating the Ronald McDonald House for 32 families each night in times of crisis. It costs $100 to sponsor one family for one night.
