Second Annual Shaggin on Kiawah Weekend
A Celebration of South Carolina's State Dance
February 20-22, 2009
Celebrate the arrival of spring with easygoing rhythm of beach music and the Shag. Presented in association with the Charleston and Islanders Shag Clubs and other area Shag clubs, this fun-filled event is back for first-time shaggers, experienced shaggers, and music and dance fanatics alike. Popular DJ music by Jim Bowers, Walter Upchurch and the trendy Sea Cruz Band for Shag neophytes will get your feet shufflin' right on time.
Attending Instructors
Jerry and Barbara Wade are returning again as instructors for "Shaggin on Kiawah". Both are native Charlestonians and have been Shagging together for 45 years. In 1992, they were asked by the founder of J.B. Pivot's Beach Club to teach a class and have been teaching the Shag ever since. Over the years, they have done Shag workshops at the Geechie Blast for the Charleston Shag Club and at Shagger's Holiday for the Islander Shag Club. They've also done workshops for Shaggin' on the Santee and for the Virginia Beach Blast. Their Shag class travels have taken them as far as Birmingham AL and recently they returned from doing a workshop in Charlotte, NC. Needless to say, the Shag and the Shag friends they've made are an integral part of their lives!
