From tiny hatchlings to imposing adults, there are alligators in almost every pond on Kiawah. Travel with us as we search our naturalists’ favorite gator hangouts for these impressive predators. This is a fantastic way to observe and learn about these amazing and often misunderstood animals in their natural habitat.

We’ll use the van to reach several remote island habitats to seek out dozens of bird species, both large and small, and learn about the natural history of our avian wildlife. Grab your cameras and head to Kiawah's scenic areas and learn about Nature Photography, no matter your level of experience. Nature Photographer Jamie Rood will focus on topics such as exposure, composition, camera techniques and lens selection, with an emphasis on creating unusual nature and unforgettable travel photos.
Price: $350 for 2 hours with up to 10 guests. Must bring your own camera and be over 14 years old. Adult must accompany children under 16 years of age.
Join our Naturalist on this family-friendly tour to search The Sanctuary Gardens for seasonal birds. We'll use nets to catch and gently examine butterflies and learn what resources these beautiful winged creatures use to live and breed on Kiawah.
Come see what size you can handle. Ranging from 3 to 8 footers, we will find the right size for you. Learn the basics of casting the net on land, and then take it to the water and see what you can catch.

The American Alligator is a guest favorite and one of our most intriguing wildlife species. First meet one of our captive gators and learn about what makes these creatures so unique. Then we’ll visit some gator habitats and learn how they survive on Kiawah. This trip is great for all ages. In summer months we recommed Kiawah Creature tour as an alternate.
Join a naturalist on a nature walk around Kiawah’s best habitats! You will see and learn a bit about everything nature-related on Kiawah during this tour. From alligators to native plants and butterflies, to local bird species and freshwater turtles! Make sure to bring your cameras and binoculars!
Price: $12, 1 hour. Recommended for ages 7 and up. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Night Beach Walk
Come join a naturalist on an evening beach walk to learn all about the biology of our native Loggerhead Sea Turtles! Once the sun sets you will discover a nocturnal world by listening and searching for wildlife such as owls, alligators and bats. (Live turtle nesting unlikely).
Price: $15 per person, 1.5 hours. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The winter season offers one of the best times of the year to explore Kiawah’s beach . Take a walk with our naturalist to discover our winter beach life and learn about the treasures that have been washed up by the tides. Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Have you ever wondered what swims with you in the sea? Our ocean seining program will give you an upclose introduction. After some initial beachcombing, prepare to get wet as we pull the net through the water to discover life below the breakers.

Beginning your bird watching endeavor? This walking tour is just what you need to learn the birding basics. A Naturalist will lead you on a walk through various types of habitats to learn which birds are found where and what to look for when identifying each species.

Historical Sunset Cycle
After a long day of fun in the sun, treat yourself to a gently paced biking tour with some on-foot exploration. Have you ever wondered where the name ‘Kiawah’ came from, or when Kiawah actually became an Island? This tour will explore the history, ecology, and beautiful views of this unique island. Timed with the sunset, we will be able to enjoy relaxing landscapes to escort us back to the Nature Center.
Price: $15/person. Does NOT include bike rental.
Duration: 1.5 Hrs
Recommended ages 16 and up. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
A Naturalist favorite: this tour will take you on leisurely bike ride to discover the fascinating wildlife that inhabits Kiawah’s diverse ecosystems. You’ll gain a better understanding of the beaches, dunes, maritime forest, ponds, and salt marshes that stretch across the island, while learning each ecosystem’s unique characteristics.
