Back Island Birding

Back Island Birding

The Lowcountry of South Carolina is famous for its variety and diversity of birds during all seasons, from tiny hummingbirds and kinglets to majestic bald eagles and wood storks. We'll reach several island habitats to seek out large and small species and learn about the natural history of our avian wildlife. This trip is appropriate for all birding skill levels.

  • Price: $35, 3 hours. Must be at least 16 years old.

Nature Photography

Grab your cameras and head to Kiawah's scenic areas and learn about Nature Photography, no matter your level of experience. Nature Photographer Jamie Rood will focus on topics such as exposure, composition and camera techniques, while creating unusual nature and unforgettable travel photos.

  • Price: $40 ($80 trip minimum), 2 hours. Must bring your own camera and be over 14 years old. Adult must accompany children under 16 years of age.

Join our Naturalist on this family-friendly tour to search The Sanctuary Gardens for seasonal birds. We'll use nets to catch and gently examine butterflies and learn what resources these beautiful winged creatures use to live and breed on Kiawah.

Cast Netting Clinic

Cast Netting Clinic

Come see what size you can handle. Ranging from 3 to 8 footers, we will find the right size for you. Learn the basics of casting the net on land, and then take it to the water and see what you can catch.

Gator Walk

Gator Walk

The American Alligator is one of our most intriguing wildlife species. On this walk we'll visit some gator habitats and learn how they live and survive on Kiawah. This trip is great for all ages. In summer months we recommed Kiawah Creature tour as an alternate.

Join a naturalist on a nature walk around one of Kiawah’s best pond habitats! You will see and learn a bit about everything nature related on Kiawah during this tour. From alligators to native plants and butterflies, to local bird species and freshwater turtles!

Night Beach Walk

Night Beach Walk

Join a naturalist on an evening beach walk focusing on the biology of our native Loggerhead Sea Turtles! Once the sun sets you will discover a nocturnal world that is very different from the one seen during the day. Listen for owl calls and spotlight for alligators on the walk back.

If you have ever wondered what swims around you in the sea, our ocean seining tour will give you an up-close introduction. After some initial beachcombing, prepare to get a bit wet as we pull a seine net through the surf to discover what is swimming around our feet.

Join a naturalist on a 7-mile bike tour to discover the fascinating wildlife that inhabits Kiawah! On this leisurely bike ride, you'll gain a better understanding of the beach, dunes, maritime forest, ponds, and salt marsh that stretch across the island.

  • Price: $20, does NOT include the bike rental. 2 hours. Children must be 10 years or older. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Carts, training wheels, and tag-alongs are not permitted.
