Spectator Shuttle

We are offering two race course stops on our complimentary spectator shuttle. Beginning at 8:30 am, there will be continuous round trip service from the shuttle drop-off /pick-up site (Sanctuary Parking Lot) to the racecourse.

Shuttle Stop 1 Governor’s Drive and Flyway Drive adjacent to Vanderhorst Plantation. Spectators can find runners at:

  • Mile 10 (both races): Corner of Governor’s Drive and Surfsong Drive. Spectators must walk .5 mile from shuttle stop down Flyway Drive.
  • Mile 12 (full marathon) : Intersection of Flyway Drive , Glenn Abbey and Bufflehead Drive. Spectators must walk .4 mile from shuttle stop down Flyway Drive.
  • Mile 24 (full marathon): Corner of Governor’s and Flyway Drive

Shuttle Stop 2 Corner of Governor’s Drive and Sweet Gum. At one location, spectators can find runners at mile: 16, 20, 21 (full marathon).

Spectators must walk .2 mile from shuttle stop.

  • From shuttle stop on Sweet Gum spectators will walk across Kiawah Island Parkway to bike path.
  • Take a left on to Kiawah Island Parkway bike path.
  • Take first left, crossing street onto Blue Heron Pond Road.
  • Walk straight ahead, full marathon runners will be passing this intersection three times.

Shuttle Pick up/ Drop off Sanctuary Parking Lot adjacent to race venue.

Bicycle Rentals:

Since almost the entire race course is behind a security gate, bikes are the best way for runners and their fan clubs to preview the race course. The Resort has Beach Cruiser style bikes for family members of all ages, including child attachments. For safety reasons, children's bikes are highly discouraged from the race course. Family Dinners:

The whole family is invited to gather at our pre-race dinner party! There are plenty of kid-friendly options on our buffet lines and dancing to our live music is fun for all ages. Plus, all kids get a special rate at the pre- dinners to help make celebrating with their running family members more economical. For information on the Pre-Race Celebration Buffet, visit here.

Family Room:

While waiting for friends and family who are running the marathon, guests are welcome to bring their children into the Family Room. There will be toys, coloring materials and a children’'s movie playing in the room throughout the morning. The Family Room will be located in Vanderhorst 1 & 2 rooms inside the East Beach Conference Center from 9 am to 12 pm. This is an unsupervised room; therefore an adult must accompany children. Children are never to be left unattended.

Nature Center:

Stop by the Night Heron Park Nature Center and get an up-close look at some of Kiawahs coolest creatures, even turtles and alligators! Naturalists are on-hand to answer questions about the wildlife on Kiawah and identify any mystery items you discover on your Island adventures. The Nature Center is also home to our Nature Shop, the perfect place to purchase unique eco-friendly toys and Holiday presents. The Nature Center is open daily at 8:30 am, Race Day hours are 8:30 am to 12 pm.

Nature Tours:

The Nature Program has family-friendly guided tours available every day. Let our Naturalists open your eyes to all the beautiful wildlife Kiawah has to offer. Nature tours require reservations, which can be made in advance by calling (843) 768-6001 or by visiting the Heron Park Nature Center.


Thank you to the 410+ people who have volunteered for the 2015 Kiawah Island Golf Resort Marathon.  We will start recruiting for the 2016 race in late summer.

Individual Volunteer

Awesome volunteers at the Kiawah Island Marathon

The expansive running course creates a tremendous demand for volunteers at key directional points and water stations. The Marathon is a fun, high-spirited event and we need enthusiastic volunteers to motivate, encourage and support our runners. All volunteers will receive a marathon long sleeve staff shirt, snack and beverage service, and preferred parking.

Volunteers are needed Friday, December 9th and Saturday, December 10th. 

Volunteer Groups

Raise money for your charity. We are offering an incentive program for our volunteer groups. Bring a minimum of 10 people and we will donate $25 per volunteer to your charity.

Shifts available Saturday, December 10th:

Water Stations Morning: 7am – 1 pm - Great for larger groups 25 - 50 volunteers
Water Stations Afternoon: 11am - 4pm - Great for smaller groups 10 - 15 volunteers
Finish Line Morning: 6:30am - 12:30 - Great for a groups of 20 - 40 volunteers
Finish Line Afternoon: 11am - 4pm - Group of 10 - 15 volunteers
