Jr. Naturalist: What's That Water?

Today's Events |  This Month's Events

Friday, August 22, 2014
4:30PM - 6:00PM

Classes offered Fridays (subject to change).

About 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered in water! Of that 70%, 96.5% is made up of ocean water. That’s a lot of salty water! In this class, you will collect water samples from different locations and test it for temperature, salinity, Ph., dissolved oxygen and other various tests. You will also meet some of and learn about the organisms that live in the waters of Earth. Naturalists will discuss with you the answers to those puzzling questions pertaining to our most important resource on the planet-WATER!

The Jr. Naturalist program is a fun, hands-on approach to exploring nature. Each individual class can be taken on its own. However, if you take all 5 classes and complete your Nature Journal, you can become an official Kiawah Island Jr. Naturalist, and receive a free Rite in the Rain notebook to be just like your favorite Naturalist! Each session will target a different area of Kiawah's Natural History, and give each child a better appreciation of our native species. Requirements: Children must be 7 -12 years old; parents must be present to sign kids in and out, before and after the trip.
