Classes offered Tuesdays (subject to change)
The salt marsh behind the island is packed with wildlife rarely seen and waiting to be discovered. First we’ll meet in the Nature Center to learn some salt marsh basics. Then we’ll drive out to our salt marsh dock and get some hands-on experience with fascinating, strange animals that inhabit the salt marsh. From sea squirts,to sponges, and even some oysters, these creatures are sure to keep everyone wanting to see more. And no trip to the marsh is complete without checking our very own crab pots.
The Jr. Naturalist program is a fun, hands-on approach to exploring nature. Each individual class can be taken on its own. However, if you take all 5 classes and complete your Nature Journal, you can become an official Kiawah Island Jr. Naturalist, and receive a free Rite in the Rain notebook to be just like your favorite Naturalist! Each session will target a different area of Kiawah's Natural History, and give each child a better appreciation of our native species. Requirements: Children must be 7 -12 years old; parents must be present to sign kids in and out, before and after the trip.
Admission Details: $40 ($80 trip minimum)
