Entering the Sanctuary and turning the corner from the retail corridor we were greeted with pleasant reminders of what day it was. Families were scattered throughout the lobby dressed in their best, kids holding their mom’s hands and mothers and grandmothers proudly displaying handfuls of beautiful spring tulips. It was Mother’s Day and the contemporary tunes of The Williams Duo was spilling out from Jasmine Porch, creating new traditions.
Celebrating Mother’s Day together for the first time in many years, my parents were in town for a long weekend. “A much needed vacation to their ideal ‘get-a-way’ location,” they’d say with a sun kissed smile across their faces. We spent the long weekend combing Kiawah’s beautiful beach for shells, bike riding throughout the 30+ miles of trails and concluded one of the evenings with an unforgettable sunset cruise on the Kiawah River. But now, it was time for Mother’s Day Sunday Brunch!
From the moment we walked in, elegance and true southern hospitality were showcased throughout. The buffets were packed with traditional favorites as the seafood table displayed fresh catch options while sporting a spirited Mother’s Day ice sculpture.
With a vegan sitting to my right and myself a pescatarian we had the pleasure of being walked through the buffet with Sous Chef, John Hoffman to discuss dietary options. After a full walk through, Chef Hoffman began sending out family style dishes, minus the meat or dairy to satisfy the palates of all around our table (an attention to detail that sets Jasmine Porch apart)! As we switched from brunch to dessert our eyes were overcome by all the decadent treats before us. Everything from petit fours, to homemade pies, dark chocolate bark coated in nuts and seasonally designed apple crumble cascaded throughout the display.
Before departing for the afternoon our server presented each lady with a beautiful spring tulip to complete the unbelievable lowcountry experience.
After brunch my mom and I went for a walk, happy and pleasantly full. I asked her what her thoughts were about brunch, she turned and smiled at me, “very impressed with the presentation, all the little details and the level of service from the staff. Over all, everything was extremely elegant and I am truly looking forward to making this a new tradition!” Cheers to that!
