It is with great pleasure to annouce that our very own Garth Herr was named Top Sommelier at the Charleston Wine & Food Festival’s Sommelier Competition, last week!
Taking home the title as Top Sommelier, Garth and a dozen other wine professionals in Charleston got the opportunity to show their stuff at a blind tasting on Thursday, March 6th.
Garth began his Beverage Specialist career in Richmond, VA in the early 90’s and wrote his first wine list for TJ’s at The Jefferson Hotel in 2000. Garth received his certification as Sommelier and Specialist of Wine in 2006. He is a passionate wine lover and especially interested in the history and culture that surrounds the production and consumption of wine. He is continuing his studies to include beer and spirits certifications.
Garth has worked for Kiawah Island Golf Resort and sister properties for the past 15 years, with over 1,200 wine selections to look after; Garth spends most of his time in The Ocean Room as the Sommelier/Beverage Manager.
