Chefs and wineries announced for February 7-9 “Gourmet & Grapes” fundraiser benefiting MUSC Hollings Cancer Center
–The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort event features new People’s Choice “Golden Fork Award”
Kiawah Island, SC (January 28, 2014) – The final list of chefs and wineries participating in The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s Sixth Annual Gourmet & Grapes event benefiting MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, were announced today. The annual fundraiser featuring celebrated regional chefs and worldwide vintners takes place February 7-9, 2014. This weekend-long culinary extravaganza is the only fundraiser in the Lowcountry that brings together renowned chefs and winemakers to raise money for cancer research. Weekend proceeds have been announced to be focused towards Hollings Cancer Center’s Endowed Chairs.
In years past this weekend brought such culinary experts as Charlie Trotter, Patrick O’Connell, Norman Van Aken, Katie Button, Sean Brock and Justin Bogle. This year’s event combines a list of event veterans with a few new faces. Gourmet & Grapes welcomes back Chefs Fred Neuville of Fat Hen, Marc Collins of Circa 1886, Denny Trantham, Nico Romo of Fish, Lacque Larson of Wild Olive, Chris Edwards of The Salamander Hotel & Spa, Nathan Thurston of Stars on King, “jimihatt” of Guerrilla Cuisine, Merrit Brady of The Pampered Palate, Scott Crawford of The Umstead Hotel & Spa, Steven Devereaux Green of An Cuisines and Spencer Thomson of Nose Dive. New for 2014; Mike Lata of FIG and The Ordinary, Ken Vedrinski of Trattoria Lucca and Coda del Pesce, Colin Bedford of The Fearrington House Restaurant and Steven Meese with PBS American Travel Cooking Show- A Chefs Journey (available Spring 2014).
New to this year’s event agenda is the “Golden Fork Award,” voted on by the guests attending the Saturday evening Wine Odyssey Gala and presented to the chef creating the favorite dish of the evening. Winning chef will receive an engraved plaque and bragging rights for the year.
Hal Jones of Southern Wine & Spirits was tasked to pair the various dishes from the broad array of chefs with award winning wines and vintners. The winemakers Rob Davis of Jordan Vineyard & Winery, Gustavo Gonzalez of Mira Winery, Sarah Halstead of Laurent Perrier and Thom Horsey with St. Michelle were selected. Other participating wineries are Antinori, Artesa, Milan Neil Empson, Joseph Carr, Josh Cellers, Row Eleven and Treasury Wine Estates.
Saturday Afterglow and Sunday Farewell Brunch
The Gala concludes with a Champagne & Chocolate Afterglow where attendees can celebrate the success of the weekend to the sounds of the Earl Williams Band. The elegant and fun weekend concludes on Sunday with the Farewell Brunch and salute to the chefs at Jasmine Porch.
