December’s Ingredient of the Month- The Citrus Celebration

Tis the season to be merry and bright! This month we are focusing on citrus as we join forces with Limehouse Produce and their Citrus Celebration. And what better time to be spreading holiday cheer!

While everyone is over this holiday season, mix up something fun and vibrant by utilizing these delicious fruits. Here are a few quick tips to make any cocktail or mocktail (for the kids or those not interested in alcoholic beverages) a festive and creative beverage.  

 

  • Whether it’s a wedge on a rim or a twist in a martini glass, a citrus garnish makes any cocktail more inviting.
  • Orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit juices add a brightness to a drink that fits in perfectly with the season.
  • The fresh juice and aromatic oils from the skin of citrus fruit create more depth of flavor in a beverage.

So if you are just trying to add a little flavor to your water or you are celebrating with family or friends this season, add a little zest to your glass.

Cran-Orange Margarita- Tequila, Cranberry-Orange Puree, Grand Marnier, Lime

The Ocean Room Lounge at The Sanctuary is serving up delicious spirits during this citrus celebration by highlighting their Cran-Orange Margarita.

Bartender Lesly Oliver of The Ocean Room breaks down this creative and festive spirit. “This cocktail was created in celebration of the Christmas season. Fresh cranberries and oranges are used from Limehouse produce in Charleston, South Carolina. These flavors are a favorite combination and to add a little holiday cheer I cooked cinnamon sticks with the cranberries and oranges.”

The Recipe:

2 oz. Cran-Orange Puree

1 1/2 oz. Tequila (Silver)

1/2 oz. Grand Marnier

1/2 oz. fresh lime juice

 

Cran-Orange Puree:

32 oz. fresh cranberries

2 cups fresh orange juice

2 cups brown sugar

4 cinnamon sticks
