The day began at 6am… Sanctuary banquets had arrived downtown and started unloading the trucks, IT’S 5 STAR DAY!
5 Star Day is an annual event The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort teams up with Ronald McDonald House of Charleston in support of family members, volunteers and staff. Our 6th Annual ‘5 Star Day’ consisted of full housekeeping services, spa treatments, breakfast/lunch/dinner, recreation activities, landscaping, transportation and a special visit from Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team. All in all- it’s a day we all look forward to every year.
During the afternoon of 5 Star Day Kiawah’s recreation team went over and visited the Atrium and Child Life Program at The Children’s Hospital of South Carolina. The Atrium is designed to meet the play and activity needs of children, teens and their families during hospitalization. “We recognize that a hospital stay can be stresful and upsteeting. The Atrium is designed as a ‘safe place’ where medical treatment and procedures do not take place. Doctors, nurses and other medical staff are encouraged to play with their patients in this area.” Here we worked on arts and crafts while presenting the kids to two of our dearest reptil friends, Corndog (the Cornsnake) and Corry (a Diamondback Terripin Turtle).
Of course a day like this could not be possible without a little help from our friends! Thank you to Mercedes of Charleston for lending us a vehicle to transport familes to and from the hospital. Limehouse Produce for the amazing pumpkins, the families enjoyed decorating them! Sysco Foods and Tiger Lily for your continuous support and donations, we couldn’t do it without you all.
The Ronald McDonald House of Charleston is a Home Away From Home for families who must travel to Charleston for treatment for their seriously ill child. We are a 27-bedroom house located just across the street from downtown hospitals.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston (RMHCC) provides temporary lodging and support for eligible families of seriously ill children in a home-like environment through the operation of the Ronald McDonald House. RMHCC also provides comfort and support to such families through the Ronald McDonald Family Room located in the Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. Through both of these settings families are provided a forum to communicate and share experiences with other similarly situated families. RMHCC also supports related programs that improve the health and enhance the lives of children, and relies heavily on the generous support of volunteers and donations from the Charleston and surrounding communities.
