When thinking about birds, Charles Darwin, John J. Audubon, and Roger Tory Peterson may be the first people to come to mind. Though an unfamiliar name, Jonathan Alderfer, should most definitely be part of this iconic list. A birding consultant for National Geographic books, Alderfer has played a major role in editing old and new birding field guides and general birding books. His primary contribution to many of these books are his beautiful illustrations. Alderfer’s most recent release is the Bird Watcher’s Bible: A Complete Treasury. This book goes far beyond identification by taking you through the “science, know-how, beauty, and lore” of these amazing creatures.
Alderfer is now involved with the Mark Catesby Tercentennial, a celebration of the life and works of Catesby, a pioneer 18th century Naturalist. As part of the Catesby Tercentennial, Alderfer will be on Kiawah Island, November 7th through November 9th. Moreover, we are excited to announce Jonathan Alderfer will be at the Heron Park Nature Center for a public book signing of his latest National Geographic book.
Bird Watcher’s Bible is available now in the Heron Park Nature Center, and a personalized copy would make a wonderful holiday gift for any bird enthusiast. This event is open to the public. To reserve your copy or for more information, please call the Heron Park Nature Center, 843.768.6001.
