Circa 1886 and The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Awarded For
Charleston, S.C. – The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island won the “Most Artistic” award for their chocolate treat while Circa 1886 took home “Most Delectable” for their Pluff Mud Slide Cake at the 21st Annual Chocolate Affair on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Marriott in Downtown Charleston.
This is Circa 1886’s second year winning an award at The Chocolate Affair; last year, they won “Most Artistic.” This is the first time The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island has earned this honor. The judges and guests were in awe over their butterfly-inspired dessert. “We wanted to make something that was fun and elegant, that people would enjoy eating,” said. “Our approach is to focus on great flavor in a unique package.”
Judging this year’s competition were experts from the culinary world. The judges were able to taste all 22 desserts donated by Charleston’s finest bakers, pastry shops and restaurants.
The Chocolate Affair is the major fundraiser benefiting Communities In Schools (CIS) of the Charleston Area. CIS is a nonprofit dropout prevention organization that currently serves over 10,000 students in 24 schools in Berkeley and Charleston Counties.
